Brief

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) plays a vital role in delivering national data and insights to inform government, business and community decision-making. Amid significant change and digital transformation, marked by rapid growth, complex program delivery and shifting workforce dynamics, the ABS needed stronger leadership alignment, cultural cohesion and a future-ready workforce.

Brand Rebellion partnered with the ABS to align leadership with strategic direction, organisational values and cultural behaviours – clarifying how leaders show up together, make decisions and embed the desired culture across teams.

Approach

  • Designed and facilitated a two-day executive leadership workshop focused on aligning senior leaders around strategy, culture and a shared leadership identity.
  • Developed tailored pre-work and podcast content to introduce key concepts, build a common understanding and prepare participants for deeper discussion during the workshop.
  • Facilitated targeted conversations to surface cultural blockers and enablers, helping leaders identify where existing behaviours, decision-making practices and ways of working were limiting alignment.
  • Translated strategic intent into observable leadership behaviours, establishing clearer expectations for how leaders would communicate, collaborate and role-model change across the organisation.
  • Created practical tools and routines to support implementation, including conversation guides, meeting practices and simple rituals that leaders could apply immediately within their teams.
  • Captured key findings, decisions and recommendations in a post-workshop report, including priority actions, implementation considerations and measures to maintain momentum.
  • Provided a clear foundation for ongoing cultural change, supporting leaders to cascade a more consistent narrative and set of expectations throughout the organisation.
