Brief

Supporting an Australian industry that enables and provides for regional economies around the country, AgriFutures sought a partner to develop an industry-wide workforce strategy that brings together industry insights, workforce data and stakeholder perspectives to support a more sustainable, productive and resilient industry.

Brand Rebellion was engaged to deliver the workforce strategy that sets out to better understand the existing workforce profile, including their challenges and risks and subsequently identify strategic initiatives to drive the workforce forward.

Approach

  • Develop an industry-wide workforce strategy to support the workforce and broader thoroughbred breeding industry through areas such as attraction, retention, development and sustainment.
  • Develop an industry value proposition and release plan to support repositioning the industry as a careerof choice to drive improved attraction and retention by capturing the lived experience of those workingwithin the industry.
  • Conduct a workforce profile analysis to understand current workforce risks, including structural challenges, individual needs and breeder workforce requirements.
  • Conduct a workforce system review to understand how the industry is supported by the education and training environment, migration systems and broader government recognition and policy.
  • Develop a pathways map identifying key levers across the education and training and policy environments that can support the sustainability of the workforce.
  • Conducted competitor benchmarking to understand the competitive pressures from adjacent industries and what makes thoroughbred breeding careers distinct and unique.
  • Develop a sequenced implementation plan that supports delivery of strategic initiatives to support the workforce.
  • Develop a monitoring and evaluation framework to support the industry to better manage workforce data and measure workforce change and strategy impact over time.
